November Challenge, Day 2: Hello, Facebook

My name is Lillian, and I'm a serial blogger.

This is the 5th blog I've had since 2005.  I had one that kept family and friends updated while I was living in Jerusalem for a year, one that chronicled all the mind-bogglingly heinous dates I went on in my early to mid 20s, one in which I dissected the equally mind-bogglingly ridiculous process of wedding planning, a food blog, and now this.

Some were good, and others weren't so awesome.  But one thing stayed consistent through the years: I religiously shared my blog posts on Facebook.

Until now.

I've been all kinds of freaked out about putting my blog posts here on Facebook, for a variety of reasons.

First, I recognize that, given all the things I want to write about here (especially the November Challenge), I'm going to have to be a lot more open and vulnerable in my writing than I have been in the past.  For reasons beyond my comprehension, it's a lot easier to handle the idea of strangers and fellow bloggers who I've never met in real life reading my writing than it is to swallow the notion of my friends and family seeing this side of me.

I fully admit that this makes no sense at all, but hey, my mind works in mysterious ways.

Secondly, I find myself assuming that if I share this blog on Facebook, people will scoff at it.  I assume the general mindset/reaction will be "Oh, here she goes again.  Lillian has another blog.  Whoopie-doo."  (*Insert exasperated eye roll here.*)

But November is all about facing my fears, and one of the big ones is the "what will people think" boogeyman.  So, starting today, the blog is going up on Facebook.

As I pasted the link into my Facebook profile, I kind of felt like I was going to barf.

But I did it anyways.

November Challenge, day 2: success!

  2. Oh my goodness, I feel the exact same way. I'm not sure if I should post mine on facebook, since I'm planning on being pretty open and honest, and for some reason I care about what the people on facebook think, but not about what complete strangers and fellow bloggers think (to a certain extent anyway). Good for you for putting it up there! You're giving me the courage to seriously contemplate doing the same...

    1. Thanks! I think putting open and honest blog posts up on FB is scary because the idea of getting laughed at by people I know and like is a whole lot scarier than the idea of getting laughed at by strangers. If it's people I've never met and will never encounter, I can shrug it off -- but people who I know, like, and respect are a whole different matter. I feel your pain on this one! :)
